Our Methodology — How We Evaluate Bali’s Medical Providers

Our Vetting and Evaluation Methodology

The trust you place in Medical Tourism Bali is something we take very seriously. Our recommendations are not based on paid placements or simple online searches. They are the result of a comprehensive, hands-on evaluation methodology designed to identify the absolute best medical providers and facilities in Bali. This rigorous process ensures that every partner in our network meets our exacting standards for safety, quality, and patient experience.

Our evaluation is built upon a proprietary scoring rubric that assesses providers across five key pillars. A provider must achieve a minimum score in every category to be considered for our network.

Our Five-Pillar Evaluation Framework

1. Clinical Excellence & Credentials (40% Weighting)

This is the most critical component of our assessment. We conduct a deep dive into the qualifications and track record of both the institution and its key medical staff.

  • Physician Credentials: Verification of medical licenses with the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI), postgraduate qualifications, international training, board certifications, and years of experience in their specialty (e.g., orthopedics, cosmetic surgery, IVF).
  • Institutional Accreditation: We prioritize facilities with national accreditation from KARS (Komisi Akreditasi Rumah Sakit) and, ideally, international accreditation from bodies like the Joint Commission International (JCI).
  • Outcomes and Peer Review: We analyze available data on patient outcomes, success rates (especially for procedures like IVF), and the reputation of the physicians within the Indonesian medical community.

2. Patient Safety & Technology (25% Weighting)

We ensure that our partners adhere to the highest standards of patient safety and utilize modern, effective technology.

  • Infection Control Protocols: On-site verification of sterilization procedures, operating theatre standards, and adherence to international infection control guidelines.
  • Medical Technology: Assessment of the age and quality of diagnostic and surgical equipment. For example, in dentistry, we look for 3D CBCT scanners and CAD/CAM technology. For cardiology, we assess the catheterization lab facilities.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Review of emergency response protocols, availability of an ICU, and established procedures for medical evacuation if necessary.

3. Patient Experience & Communication (20% Weighting)

A successful medical journey is about more than just the procedure. We evaluate every aspect of the patient experience.

  • Staff & Language: A high percentage of English-speaking staff, including doctors, nurses, and administrative personnel, is mandatory. We assess their communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Pre- and Post-Procedure Support: Evaluation of the clarity and thoroughness of communication before arrival and the quality of follow-up care after the procedure.
  • Privacy and Discretion: Assessment of policies and facilities to ensure patient confidentiality and privacy.

4. Facility & Ambiance (10% Weighting)

The physical environment plays a crucial role in healing and recovery.

  • Cleanliness and Comfort: On-site inspection of the cleanliness of patient rooms, waiting areas, and clinical spaces.
  • Amenities: Availability of comfortable recovery suites, private rooms, and integration with a healing environment.

5. Value & Transparency (5% Weighting)

We believe in clear and fair pricing.

  • Transparent Pricing: Providers must offer clear, itemized cost estimates with no hidden fees.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: We perform a cost comparison against regional and global benchmarks to ensure our partners offer excellent value for the quality provided.

The Process: Site Visits and Annual Audits

Our evaluation is not a one-time event. Members of our team, including our Chief Medical Liaison, conduct in-person site visits before any partnership is formed. We interview senior management, clinical staff, and administrative teams. Furthermore, we conduct scheduled and unscheduled audits of our partners annually to ensure they continue to meet our high standards. This ongoing diligence is our promise to you that a recommendation from Medical Tourism Bali is a mark of verified excellence.

Facility accreditation and advanced medical technology

While the expertise of the medical staff is paramount, the operational integrity of the entire facility forms the bedrock of exceptional care. We extend our scrutiny to international accreditations, primarily focusing on Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, a globally recognized benchmark for patient safety and quality. A JCI-accredited facility demonstrates an unwavering commitment to rigorous standards across all departments, encompassing everything from patient care processes and medication management to robust infection control and comprehensive facility safety protocols. This isn’t merely a certificate; it’s a profound testament to a culture of
